Repetition
Series of experiments to explore how it feels to perform a simple action repetitively and to not know when to stop. As part of the research for the Obsession / Control project, the experiments aimed to reveal the potential for the design of objects to control repetitive behaviour by breaking them down into units of time.
'writing my name', after 2hrs 16mins and 33secs of constant writing 1/3rd of the pen was used and 'Nadia' had been written 3272 times.
'sharpening a pencil', after 3.5mins of constant sharpening, the pencil could not be sharpened any further. The result, a pencil divided into 15secs intervals by engraved lines.
'washing my hands', after 20mins of constant washing the soap ran out. The result, a bar of soap split into individual 1min sections.
